The main chain in octane petrol is Carbon,n Carbon doesnt support fire-then why does petrol intensify fire?

the carbon and hydrogen in petrol are combustible and in Presence of air and little heat in the form of naked flame starts the reaction which is exothermic,with formation of carbon dioxide and water.
